'Crypto: The Musical' [ann July 2022] is a stageplay entirely about Bitcoin that has been performed in New York, 'Off Broadway' or even Off-Off Broadway, if we need to get technical; written by CoinDesk crypto journalist & editor Ben Schiller. The play (or musical, since there is one number called - no kidding - “Bitcoin Bad Boy”) is chock-full of Bitcoiner inside humor that only the well-initiated will understand; the pre-recorded voices that move the plot along or provide background noise throughout the show are mainly voiced by crypto journalists. One report says that the stageplay tells the story of Zoe, a woman who leaves her corporate job to join a crypto startup; another report describes it as the night before a cryptobillionaire must surrender himself to prison for fraud.
Producer Amanda Cassatt set up MusicalDAO, a self-described 'decentralized autonomous organization' that allows donors to contribute to the project’s funding in exchange for pre-sale tickets and other privileges, including naming a character or making an on-stage cameo. A minimum donation of $1,000 - paid in either stablecoins USDT or USDC - is required to join the DAO.
