David Lee Chaum [b. 1955] - the Godfather of Cryptocurrency
American computer scientist, cryptographer, and inventor known as a pioneer in cryptography & privacy-preserving technologies, and widely recognized as the inventor of digital cash. His April 1982 dissertation "Computer Systems Established, Maintained, and Trusted by Mutually Suspicious Groups" is the first known proposal for a blockchain protocol; complete with the code to implement the protocol, Chaum's dissertation proposed all but one element of the blockchain later detailed in the "Bitcoin Whitepaper" [Oct 2008].

After a six-week trial in March 2024, the British High Court ruled that Australian computer scientist Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious inventor of bitcoin.
Wright has long claimed that he adopted the pseudonym and authored a white paper on bitcoin in 2008, laying the groundwork for cryptocurrency. Since then,
Wright sued several developers for allegedly violating his intellectual property rights, but the evidence that he is not Satoshi, the judge said, is 'overwhelming'.

Changpeng Zhao - founded Binance in 2017, CEO from 2017 to November 2023
Zhao, better known by his initials CZ, stepped down from his CEO role and pleaded guilty in U.S. court to money laundering; the D.O.J. alleges that Binance enabled people in sanctioned countries, like Iran & Russia, to trade on the platform, violating U.S. regulations against money laundering. Binance will reportedly pay a $4.3 billion fine but will stay open for business. Zhao probably wont face jail time, since hes based in the UAE, with whom the U.S. does not have an extradition agreement.
