History of The Games
"Fallout" [1997] was a kind of successor and homage to "Wasteland" [Interplay Ent. 1988] and became a huge success, spawning multiple game sequels over the next two decades.

The original "Fallout" video game [Oct 1997] was developed by Black Isle Studios for parent company Interplay Ent. [est. 1983]; the "Fallout 2" sequel video game [Oct 1998] was again produced by Black Isle for Interplay; the "Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel" tactical role-playing game [March 2001] was developed by Micro Forté and 14 Degrees East; Interplay Ent. [est. 1983] closed their Black Isle Studios division in late 2003; the "Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" spin-off video game [June 2003] was released by Interplay; the rights to further adaptations were purchased in 2007 by Bethesda Softworks [est. 1986]; the "Fallout 3" sequel video game [Oct 2008] was released by Bethesda Softworks; the "Fallout: New Vegas" spin-off video game [Oct 2010] was developed by Obsidian Ent. [est. 2003]; Fantasy Flight Games merged with the Asmodee Group [est. 1995] of France in 2014; "Fallout Shelter" spin-off video game was released by Bethesda for iOS devices in June 2015, for Android devices in August 2015, for Microsoft Windows in July 2016, for Xbox One in February 2017, and for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in June 2018 - and it was released as a multiplayer tabletop board game in late 2020; the "Fallout 4" sequel video game [Nov 2015] was released for PS-4, Windows, and Xbox One (PS-5 & Xbox S are expected soon); the "Fallout" board game [Nov 2017] was released by Fantasy Flight Games; the "Fallout: Wasteland Warfare" tabletop wargame [March 2018] was released by Modiphiüs Ent. [est. 2012] of London, U.K.; and the "Fallout 76" multiplayer sequel video game [Nov 2018] was released for PS-4, Windows, and Xbox One by Bethesda.
Planned franchise releases in 2023 include the "Fallout 5" sequel video game from Bethesda and the "Fallout" streaming web series from Amazon Originals.

Several games were produced for Bethesda by contractor licensees: Micro Forté Pty. Ltd. Nordic purchased Asmodee in December 2021; Modiphiüs Ent. [est. 2012] of London, U.K. released tabletop wargame "Fallout: Wasteland Warfare" in March 2018.

Synopses
The end-of-the-world scenarios of "Fallout" take place about 200 years after a nuclear war with China in a retro-futuristic, back-to-the-1950s ethos
that has the surviving Americans depicted as super-patriotic right-wing McCarthyites who even annexed Canada just to be on the safe side.

"Fallout" video game [Oct 1997]: the Vault Dweller who inhabits the underground nuclear shelter Vault 13 scours the surrounding wasteland of Southern California for a computer chip that can fix the Vault's failed water supply system; he/she interacts with the Brotherhood of Steel, the Children of the Cathedral, and the Super Mutants.

"Fallout 2" sequel video game [Oct 1998]: the Chosen One, grandchild of the first game's protagonist, seeks a GECK (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) to save his village from a drought; he/she eventually finds Vault 13 which is devoid of the majority of its former human inhabitants and instead inhabited by intelligent Deathclaws; returning to his/her village, the Chosen One finds everyone has been captured by the Enclave, attacks their offshore oil rig base, and frees the captured inhabitants of the village and Vault 13, who then create a new prosperous community using the GECK device.

"Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel" multiplayer tactical role-playing game [March 2001]: 'non-canon' storyline of missions assigned to Brotherhood of Steel team members from their base near the post-war ruins of Chicago.
"Fallout: Warfare" table-top miniatures game included on the bonus CD [March 2001]: elements include five factions: The Brotherhood of Steel, Mutants, Raiders and Reavers, Beastlords, and Robots; three unit types: Grunts, Squadleaders, and Heroes; and four scenarios: Skirmish, Convoy, Treasure Hunt!, and Wild America.

"Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" spin-off video game [June 2003]: 'non-canon' storyline; the player chooses one of six playable characters: Brotherhood of Steel human warrior Cyrus, Brotherhood of Steel ghoul warrior Cain, orphan Brotherhood of Steel warrior Nadia, independent survivor Patty, separatist Brotherhood of Steel human Paladin Rhombus, or the Vault Dweller from Vault 13.

"Fallout 3" sequel video game [Oct 2008] - shipped almost 5 million copies in its first week and is considered one of the best video games ever made: an inhabitant of Vault 101 is forced to venture out into the Capital Wasteland surrounding the ruins of Washington, DC to find their scientist father after his mysterious disappearance and to fight against the Enclave, the corrupt remnants of the former U.S. government.

"Fallout: New Vegas" spin-off video game [Oct 2010] - a commercial success, estimated to have sold around 12 million copies worldwide: the Courier is sent with a package across the Mojave Wasteland to New Vegas; he/she is robbed, shot, and buried, but survives; later action includes a battle for control of Hoover Dam and the New California Republic.
