Synopsis

The Pooh 'canon' consists of 12 short poems and 20 short stories, so there is no start-to-finish plot. The main characters are the boy Christopher Robin and teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh who have adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with stuffed toy Piglet, the depressed donkey stuffed toy Eeyore, bouncy Tigger (a stuffed toy tiger), and live animals Owl, Rabbit, and mother and child Kanga and Roo. (Hyphens in the names were removed by Disney.)

History of The Books
Christopher Robin's teddy bear made his character debut in A.A. Milne's poem "Teddy Bear" in Punch Magazine of 13 February 1924; the poem was included in Milne's book of children's verse "When We Were Very Young", published by Methuen & Company on 6 November 1924. Winnie-the-Pooh first appeared by name in a Christmas story commissioned by the London newspaper The Evening News and published on 24 December 1925; it was illustrated by J. H. Dowd.
The first collection of ten Pooh stories appeared in the book "Winnie-the-Pooh"; the Evening News Christmas story reappeared as the first chapter of the book, which was published in October 1926 by Methuen in England and by E.P. Dutton in the United States.
"Now We Are Six" is a book of thirty-five children's verses by A.A. Milne, with illustrations by E. H. Shepard; it was first published in 1927 and includes 11 short poems featuring Winnie-the-Pooh.
"The House At Pooh Corner" contains ten short stories, and introduced the Tigger character and the game of Poohsticks; it was published in 1928 by Methuen & Company.

An authorised sequel "Return To The Hundred Acre Wood" by author David Benedictus was published on 5 October 2009; the illustrations by Mark Burgess are in the style of Shepard. Another authorised sequel, "The Best Bear In All the World", was published by Egmont in 2016; the book consists of four short stories by leading children's authors Kate Saunders, Brian Sibley, Paul Bright, and Jeanne Willis; illustrations are by Mark Burgess; the book introduces the new character Penguin, which was inspired by a long-lost photograph of Milne and his son Christopher with a toy penguin.
The special story "Winnie-the-Pooh Meets The Queen" by Jane Riordan was published in November 2016 to mark the 90th anniversary of Milne's creation and the 90th birthday of Elizabeth II; in the tale, Pooh meets the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Winnie, The Live Bear [1914-34]
A young veterinarian named Harry Colebourn enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1914; on his way to the training camp, he saw a black bear cub for sale at the White River, Ontario train station; he purchased the cub for $20 and named her 'Winnie' for his home town of Winnipeg. The Fort Garry Horse Brigade soon adopted the bear as mascot, and smuggled the animal to their next posting, in England. When orders arrived for a move to the frontlines in France, Lt. Colebourn arranged for the bear to be cared for by the London Zoo. The bear became very popular with the public, so Colebourn left the bear at the zoo when the war ended. Young Christopher Robin was also a fan of the bear, and renamed Edward Bear, his scruffy teddy bear, in honor of Winnie. The rest, as they say is history. Winnie lived a long and happy life at the London Zoo until she died in 1934.
