“The only stupid thing about words is the spelling of them.”

“The real things haven't changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have;
to be happy with simple pleasures; and [to] have courage when things go wrong.”

“Home is the nicest word there is.”

“There's no great loss without some small gain.” – in "Little House On The Prairie"

“A good laugh overcomes more difficulties and dissipates more dark clouds than any other one thing.”

“We'd never get anything fixed to suit us if we waited for things to suit us before we started.”
– in "By The Shores of Silver Lake"

“The fact is that while there has been a good deal of discussion for and against women in business,
farm women have always been business women, and I have never heard a protest.”

She worked as a seamstress until she received her teaching certificate in December 1882.
Laura's first teaching job was in a small settlement 12 miles from De Smet. Her future husband, Almanzo James Wilder, drove her home through Dakota blizzards to her family on the weekends. Laura and Almanzo married on August 25, 1885.
all except "Farmer Boy" (1933) were Newberry Honor books. In 1954 the American Library Association established the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award of which Laura was the first recipient.

A Wilder Rose book by Susan Wittig Albert  "A Wilder Rose" [2013] by Susan Wittig Albert
World-traveling journalist & magazine writer Rose Wilder Lane returned in 1928 to the Missouri farm where she was raised; her parents were 61 and 71, so Rose decided to stay and take care of them. But the Stock Market Crash of late 1929 changed things, their investments disappeared into thin air, as it did for so many during the Great Depression. Her mother, Laura Ingalls Wilder, decided to write down stories from her life on the American prairie in the 1870s and since, to perhaps publish a book, and Laura asked Rose for help with the editing. Many versions exist of the relationship between Rose and Laura during the creation of the beloved Little House books, and this book is an attempt to get past the tales and conjecture and reveal the reality.

Timber Press 9x7¼ hardcover [9/2017] for $19.00

Laura Ingalls was born in a log cabin in Pepin County, Wisconsin in 1867, which is commemorated by a birth site replica structure, The Little House Wayside. The Ingalls family lived in Kansas from 1869 to 1871, then moved back to Pepin in 1871, staying until 1874. They moved several times from 1874 to 1879: to Minnesota, to Iowa, back to Minnesota, then to De Smet, Dakota Territory; the Ingalls lived in the De Smet surveyor's house during the harsh winter of 1879–1880.

Laura and bachelor neighbor Almanzo James Wilder married on 25 August 1885; daughter Rose was born in De Smet in December 1886; the family of three lived in Spring Valley, Minnesota (circa 1890) with Almanzo's parents, then in Westville, Florida (circa 1892); they tired of the Southern weather and soon moved back to De Smet, and finally trekked by wagon to Mansfield, Missouri in 1894. The Wilders had enough money saved up for a down payment on land just outside of town, naming it Rocky Ridge Farm;
Laura lived there for the next 60-plus years (Almanzo died in 1949, Laura died in 1957).

Daughter Rose Wilder Lane worked and wrote while traveling around the world from about 1904 to 1928; she returned to Rocky Ridge Farm and helped her mother
write the early 'Little House' books; Rose stayed until 1936, when she moved permanently to Danbury, Connecticut.
