During her lifetime, Lucy Maud Montgomery published 22 novels, over 500 short stories, 700 articles, an autobiography, and a book of poetry, and left behind a series of journals going back 50 years. She was invested in the Order of the British Empire in 1935.

she married in July 1911 and they moved to Leaskedale, Ontario in 1913, then to Norval in 1926 and to Swansea in 1935; Maud continued writing until her death in April 1942.
