"The Fairylogue and Radio-Plays"
[Selig Polyscope Co. 1908, First National 1925]
big ad for Fairylogue and Radio-Plays 1908 filmed stageshow starring L. Frank Baum
small ad for Fairylogue and Radio-Plays 1908 filmed stageshow starring L. Frank Baum
The first attempt to produce films from the Oz books; a 2-hour stage show that toured successfully for two months, but the cost of each performance was more than could be paid for by full houses; Baum appeared in a white suit and interacted with live actors and with back-projected color-tinted films; content is credited as adaptations of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", "The Marvelous Land of Oz", "John Dough and The Cherub" and "Ozma of Oz"; when First National purchased the Selig companies in 1925, they re-released this show, but whether as a duplicate live-and-film stageshow or as an all-film version is unclear; in any case, the filmed content is considered lost - only the original stageshow script and several stills exist in various archives
