Begun from a 1983 book about a Northern Thai peasant who claimed to recall past lives, the project morphed into an exercise about the death of film itself (as opposed to digital), bringing in elements from old movies, comic books, and Thai television. The actual story is a surreal mix of Boonmee's past meories and regrets, and visits from the ghost of his wife, and his lost son in non-human form.
