"None of the world's problems will have a solution until
the world's individuals become thoroughly self-educated."
R. Buckminster Fuller [1895-1983]

"The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next."
Abraham Lincoln [1809-65]

The first experimental motion pictures, circa 1895, were all documentaries, until the short film "The Great Train Robbery" [1903], the first plotted (drama) motion picture. The genre of 'educational films' did not really take off until the appearance of home movie cameras and small electric projectors such as those made by Bell & Howell starting in the 1940s, for use in schools and at home. Such equipment was usually for 8mm or 16mm film.
Since the advent of public television, P.B.S. has produced a zillion hours of content, with P.B.S. and History Channel and Biography and National Geographic producing still more – and don't forget "Sesame Street".
The information included here covers three basic categories: educational films per se; documentaries about teachers and schools and the U.S. education system; and plotted (drama) films about schools and students and, again, the education system.

The idea of building a separate Education Film Festival Page has many possibilities, though care must
be taken to avoid such popular trash as "Beverly Hills, 90210", "The O.C.", "Glee", or the musical
