"Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs"
[Warner/Vitaphone Jan 1943]
Coal Black & de Sebben Dwarfs cartoon short poster   Yup, there was such a film, and it was made & released by a major studio. In its time, it was considered a funny parody on the "Snow White" feature film released by Disney in 1937, but in later years has become offensive to many. Banned for release by United Artists in 1968; rarely seen on TV and not released on home video. The color short has a reputation for excellence, for the anima- tion as well as for the jazz & swing music score. "Metoroporisu" animé feature film
[Toho Japan May 2001, USA Jan 2002]
Metropolis 2001 anime film directed by Rintaro  Graphic artist Osamu Tezuka was inspired by a poster for the 1927 "Metropolis" movie (co-written & directed by Fritz Lang) to create his very popular manga comic books, first published in the late 1940s; he apparantly never saw the film, and Tezuka's manga tales have very little similarity with Lang's story. The animé film by Katsuhiro Ôtomo & Rintaro was somewhat modernized, though the graphics were intentionally kept close to Tezuka's style. The basic storyline in the animated film is that a detective and his young son arrive in the fururistic city of Metropolis seeking a mad scientist, whose talents have produced a female robot who thinks that she is human. Directed by Rintaro; script by Katsuhiro Ôtomo; Japanese voices by Yuka Imoto, Kei Kobayashi, Kouki Okada, Tarô Ishida & Kousei Tomita; English voices by Rebecca Forstadt, Brianne Siddall, Michael Reisz, Jamieson Price & Simon Prescott
