The Statue
      | The headquarters building for Jay Ward's company was/is on the eastern end of the Sunset Strip, in West Hollywood, California. Lots of tourist traffic passes by, especially on weekends. so advertising billboards in the area are prime real estate. Around 1961, the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada put up a billboard directly across the street from Bill Ward's offices, and included a revolving statue of a showgirl in a bathing suit holding her cowgirl hat in the air. Practical joker Jay Ward naturally responded by erecting a statue of Bullwinkle in an old-style bathing suit holding Rocky in the air; the Bullwinkle statue also revolved, and whenever the cowgirl's costume changed, the Bullwinkle statue was repainted to match. |
